I'm guessing I have to drop that pan.

re: 92 DS rear leaf spring install
Okay... (I had to get on my computer, I type faster! )
Here's a pic of my buddies 94 (pay no attention to the lift kit, it just gives everyone and idea of what your working with!) 007.JPG This is what you need to do...
IF... you don't have both of the leafs off yet, Remove the one and only bolt that ties the transaxle to the engine pan by the rear drain plug, (U shaped wire looking support) with the engine pan supported, you should be able to jack the transaxle up enough to squeeze the new leaf in between! It's best that you do just one side at a time so the engine pan doesn't fall off of the snubber bracket, and to the ground, IF... you already have BOTH old leafs off, just loosen that single bolt, rock the axle and try to squeeze one leaf in, U-bolt it down, and connect the leaf front and back to the frame, and remove the bolt, before continuing with the other side! Once you have both of your leafs in, don't worry about putting the single bolt back in... because it won't go back in! It's all around best to do one side at a time with the older DS's! |

The leaf's are still but the left is unbolted, I was doing just the left side to start with. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and report back. Thanks |

I cant remember, but you may have to loosen the right side U-bolt a little.

re: 92 DS rear leaf spring install
Sorry to butt in but I'm a newbie and tried to install new springs yesterday on my 95 gas DS before I read this thread. I got both springs in and lined up with the shock bracket but the axle brackets for the u-bolts are rotated and I can't get the axle to rotate to align them. Is that engine pan bolt my problem as well? Thanks

I'm a little lost on where this bolt is located?

re: 92 DS rear leaf spring install
I'll stand corrected just a little bit... It's not a U shaped wire support!
It's a single rod that ties the engine pan, and the transaxle together... Sorry for the confusion! The rod is just to the right of the number 2 in the pic. (#18 in the lower right exploded view) Bolt #17 is a transaxle case bolt... Bolt #11 ties the rod to the engine pan... that's the one you'll need to remove! (you could completely remove the rod also... that's up to you) . |

Re: 92 DS rear leaf spring install
Thanks,
I tried removing 11 and it did nothing at all. I have been out of town all weekend, I'll be heading up there after work today and will look to see what else could be holding the plate to the axle. Looking at the cart and now seeing the exploded drawing I my need to remove bolt 14 as well, although I am not quite sure I will get at it. |

Re: 92 DS rear leaf spring install
Success!
I had to get a pry bar on the motor plate and have my wife pry the two apart and I was able to get the old leaf out and the new one in. What a PITA! Whoever engineered this cart needs to be taken outside and flogged! lol! Thanks for the help! Much appreciated! |
