Default 94 Club Car misfire when warm

Just rebuilt the entire engine (FE290) due to oil consumption. Got it running now and it runs great at first, take it for a ride and get it warm, let it shut off then go to run it again and it misfires.

Checked compression, pumps 150 psi. Valves lashed at .005 cold

Not sure if its a spark issue? One thing i did notice is that the ignitor is not wired up. Wires come out of Rev limiter and right into coil...

Someone has been into the wiring but im pretty sure this is how it was before the rebuild.

Did you set the gap on the coil with a guage?
Rev limiters fail pretty often.
Try unhooking the ground on the rev limiter and see if the problem goes away.

yep set coil gap to .012 , i could recheck it though.
I did unhook revlimiter ground and it still misfires when warm after a ride and it gets shut off.

Is it common to have the igniter bypassed and not hooked up?

All that means is sometime during it's existence the coil was replaced by a newer unit that incorporates the ignitor into the coil (96+ type). If it needed the ignitor it would not run at all without it.

Put a spark tester inline on the plug wire and it doesn't look like spark is completely going out but hard to tell since its a steady miss. The light is definitely dimmer when it's mis firing...

Maybe a coil issue?

Fair chance. Heat related failure is a common issue. Coils are another of those parts you want to get O.E. Kawasaki branded. I've seen way to many repeated failures with aftermarket coils for these.

check wiring for continuity with ohm meter while wiggling them, any variance in readings indicates a bad wire. I have seen wires break or corrode inside there insulation with no external clues....that type of failure will make ya crazy. But a test with an ohm meter takes all questions out of it. And its free to do!

Tried coil gap at .030, wouldn't even spark. Put it back to .012, going to check continuity when it's missin next

Ran continuity test from wire off the frame to the connection at coil, and never looses continuity when misfiring and wiggling wires... Coil bad?

Also can hooking a multimeter with clamp connector around plug wire to read RPM cause any issues or fry anything?

So looking at the coil, it appears that i have a 92-96 coil. But the igniter is def not hooked up.

I have changed carb, and checked over fuel system. Still will miss fire after you ride, get warm and shut it off. It continues to run fine as long as the engine doesnt shut off.

If this is infact a coil issue, im not sure if i should get the 97 - up coil or the early one?
