Default State of charge an solenoid

I have had two carts were the solenoid would (drop out) lose contact and cart would quite running like you cut the key off. I have found out that nether owner has been keep there batteries charged up like they should. Battery light has come on at times.

Looks to me that running the cart that low on voltage is damaging the solenoid or is just coincidence.

Depends on the cart, but yes, running too low on voltage can damage a lot of things.
As voltage decreases the motor amperage draw will increase and can be too much for the wiring and solenoid to handle. Any connection point or contact point will heat up due to the increased current draw through the motor circuit.

I’ve seen batteries explode (heavy equipment batteries like to do that) because they were low on charge and placed under a load (trying to start an engine or turn a large electric motor) The terminals usually melt first but sometimes the bar connections inside the battery can melt due to high current draw.

Yes to everything Ft said above.

I have no scientific data to back it up but I have had a LOT of new solenoids fail in the last 18 months or so.

Thanks FT for the reply. This were both 48 volt IQ carts. I know the solenoid takes a beating. May be a good think that breaks down before something else does.

Thanks Moon. These two carts are the only ones I have failed on me. The carts worked fine when I used them here around the place. I give them to the grand kids and let them run them through the passes.

What parts are failing - large contacts or pull-in coils?
Are fails on one cart, a couple, several?

Several carts. Different brands. When they fail I throw them away.
