Default MZJ400 on 400amp Curtis controller

I purchased an MZJ400 solenoid off ebay that came with a resistor and a diode. My stock solenoid only has the resistor. Do I need to install the diode?

Every cart should have a voltage suppression diode on the solenoid small posts to protect the entire cart from excessive fly-back voltage when the solenoid opens (disengages)

Thanks, so the diode does not go on the big posts?

Typically, the diode goes on the small posts and the pre-charge resistor goes on the big posts.

OK, mine does have a diode, It looks like I have more wires going to my solenoid than your diagram. Has anyone done this upgrade w/ a stock controller?

The MZJ400 solenoid has the same number of small and big terminals as the original. All of the small wires and big cables go on the new solenoid in the same places/order they were on the original solenoid. If you have 3 or 4 small (+) like some CC do then all of them transfer to the new small + post. Same for the (-).

Thanks Scotty B! Cart is all ready for an Alltrax from you after this last upgrade! What is the benefit of going with an alltrax over my rebuilt “400amps” Curtis.

Do you sell the Curtis 500a ones? I think it’s the 1205m. I see a bunch of knock offs on eBay but I’m afraid of clones

We sell only Alltrax controls simply because they offer the most bang for the buck. Their free user friendly software gives these controllers the most easily accessible programming. Their 2 year warranty is double or more than any other controller. The Alltrax controls offer reverse polarity protection and driver interface FNs to boot.
The rebuilt control is not rebuilt as much as it is repaired and then higher capacity built into a standard box with no greater cooling and a crap warranty. It's your call.
