new to forum, 1st cart build
Hi, i'm new to this forum and i'm going to put together my 1st cart. The primary purpose will be a down on the farm and hunting buggy. I'll be doing some moderate hill climbing and off roading and general chore's around farm.
I'm going with electric primarily for the quiet factor for hunting, I'm trying to find a mid 2000 ez-go pds to start with and plan on the following up grades: 1st upgrades will be a jake's 6" spindle kit 23 x 12 tire and wheel combo(atv tires) alltrax 500 amp controller(modify prog. to keep from frying stock motor) heavy duty solenoid heavy duty f and r switch rear cargo bed upgrade cable's(probably use some welding lead's I have and make them up at work) free heavy duty rear spring's might swap out motor for the GE D1162 later up grade to 48 volt's later( if I decide I want more torque) Camo wrap brushguard and rear bumper light kit This will be a basic knock off of the beast buggy i seen on the net out of Ga. Any other recommendation's would be appreciated( anything else I might need or the best place to buy part's to save a few $) Thanks David |

Kydog, Welcome to BGW!
PDS carts have not been shown to be the best choice for your intended useage. A series cart would be a better starting point. If you do end up with a PDS cart you will NOT need a HD F/R switch as direction control is handled internally in the controller. |

Re: new to forum, 1st cart build
The PDS carts have shown to generate way too much heat while going low speeds for hours on end crawling through the woods. The big tires rob them of torque causing the motor and controller to overheat. Running flat out on suburban streets, no problem for a PDS.

Wouldn't the upgraded controller and motor take care of that?

Re: new to forum, 1st cart build
A PDS sytem is a Sepex system (seperately excited). If your upgrades stay in the Sepex category the issues stay with the cart. I'm not saying it won't work, I'm just saying a Series system will have far fewer issues than a Sepex system in your application.

Re: new to forum, 1st cart build
IF I go with a series stye of cart what would be a good motor and controller combination to get the performance that I'm looking for. I'm looking for more torque than speed but don't want it to be a dog on flat ground either, I would be happy to get 20 mph's out of it and still have plenty off torque to pull hill's when hunting.running 22 or 23" tire's.
Thanks David |
