u can use a mulitmeter just have to hold the brake and hit the gas it will deffinatley tell you witch one is bad its putting a whole lot more load on it than a load tester.

Thanks for all the responses. I also called a dealer nearby. They basically told me that it was normal for the batteries to heat up and that the fuse on the charge line would blow before heat damage would be done to the batteries. I let them cool and re-started the charge cycle. Finally today the batteries reached a full charge to where the charger light lit up solid green indicating it was done. I left it plugged in to maintain the charge and several hours later the charger kicked in again. I figure I have a weak battery somewhere and will do some further testing to determine the culprit.
