I dont know what i missed about the hei conversion . What does it do ? Does it give you more performance ? Are there any down sides to doing this upgrade ?

The original parts are very very expensive, so it is cheaper.

The original parts are low energy, an HEI (High Energy Ignition) give a longer dwell which makes the spark stronger. You will see a weak orange spark turn into a bright blue spark.

A better spark means you are combusting your fuel more efficiently.

When I did my conversion I spent less than $20 and it took my cart from a slow, smokey, turd to a much faster, more responsive, non-smoking semi-turd

I would have spent $100 for that much performance gain without question. It is very worth the time and few dollars.
