Default 1984 ezgo

ifound the problem with my cart,
there was a rattle in the jug i pulled it apart and found the piston was to small. they added larger rings so it wouldnt rattle.
i guess it worked for a while.
it is 72.25 mm i know i need a piston but what size 25mm or the 50 mm oversize?

your best bet would be a complete rebuild.

i believe they cost the same, so why not just go to the largest one! the kit comes withe jug, piston and rings to match. don' see a down side to it. unless you were thinking of boring out the jug at sometime in the future.

rmelvin, because the tolerances are so tight on these things (.007" between the piston and the cylinder - yes that is a correct number), your best bet is to do a top end rebuild. Loose piston, and/or loose rings = broken ring caught somewhere = more damage that will cost you more money in the long term.

A kit for the top end which includes gaskets, piston, rings, and cylinder will only set you back around $200, and you'll now have an engine that works like new. If you get stranded a few miles from where you want to be, guaranteed you won't be as thrilled that you saved $100.

Me, I went with te standard displacement, as once my engine wears out, I can simply rebore the jug, and then get an oversized piston and rings to match.

I also can't remember if you said you changed the crank seals - if you haven't, during the rebuild is a good time to do it.
