Crops are not all in yet, but had a chance to tear into the top end of the G1. Take a look at the photo below of the piston and the metal shavings in the cylinder. This explains why it was not wanting to turn over freely when I took the drive belt off. Hopefully I can tear down the bottom end and just replace seals/bearings. Any thoughts on what would have caused the piston to tear apart like it did? Yes, one of the rings is missing too.

Hard to tell with the carnage.
But I will say that little Yamaha did its best to
keep running. A guess is the piston skirt broke but
the engine kept running because the top ring and
crown were intact.
