Re: g1 smell gas & backfires
I can't remember...did you just replace crank seals? If so did you put your timing plate back on in the exact same spot?

Re: g1 smell gas & backfires
i believe so,but not 100%.i also noticed that the seal on the clutch side is not all the way in still.I am going to remove the clutch again and maybe it didn't set all the way. also some thick oil residua is around the exhaust pipe near the engine.it does not backfire alot and runs pretty good for the timing to be off,but how can i check timing help pls thx

Re: g1 smell gas & backfires
You are smelling gas because you have raw fuel coming out the exhaust pipe. That's that oily residue you saw. Your fuel is not getting burned fully which usually is a timing issue. The popping sound is also related to the timing. I would just advance the timing all the way forward and see if it will run. Two strokes like alot of advance timing. If it's not too far advanced, it ought to run like a top.

Re: g1 smell gas & backfires
sounds like your muffler may be pluged up. timing is not real critical, just loosen the two screws on the timing plate, move it all the way clockwise, then all the way counter clockwise, then just put it in the middle and you'll be good to go. hope this helps. if you do decide to bbq the muffler just make sure you blow it out real good with compressed air after your done, blow it out both ways until nothing comes out.
