Yes it could draw much more amperage than normal. Pull the motor and give it the smell test. If it smells burnt, replace it.

Would you recommend a new motor or having mine rebuilt?

I can't answer your question on the motor overheating. Only smell it from time to time. When I go up a steep hill. But my charge gauge is on E when it quits. Hope this helps thanks for the help guys!

Most rebuilders won't try to rehab a burnt motor.

Which motor would you recommend? I care more about torque then speed. What is a average price? Is there a vender on here that sales the motors?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are at least two issues here.

1. The 500A controller and 1Ga cables allows the stock motor to draw more amps than it can handle.

2. Why is it taking so much electrical energy to move the cart such a short distance?

Installing a motor that can handle the Amps will probably take care of the first one, but not the second, unless the bearings in the stock motor were lubricated with Loc-Tite.

Unless the new and old set of batteries both had/have problems, or they were/are not being fully charged, 2 miles seems like a mighty short distance even with the big tires.

How far will this cart go on dry, level ground rather than climbing mountains with the tires half buried halfway to the axles in red clay?

I have no idea how far a series cart with a 500A controller and 22" tires with new batteries should go, but on something similar to a Golf course cart trail, I would expect it to run at least an hour at top speed, or about 14 miles.

Perhaps an electric Golf Cart is the wrong vehicle for the application........

Just my $0.02

It's not all mud and hills. Mostly flat hard ground. Out of the two miles I am traveling Before it goes dead maybe 1/4 mile is mud and hills. Bearings are good rolls free brakes not dragging. charged batteries last night after 12 Hours sitting 38.1 total and 4 batteries are 6.39 and 2 are 6.34 will ride it this afternoon and see what they are when it goes dead

More importantly I would like to see what they drop to under load. We know how much voltage usually is when the carts stop. And this concerns me too because that is a MUCH deeper discharge than what is healthy for your batteries to endure.
If you can tape or clip your meter leads to the battery pack and place the meter on the seat next to you.(or hand it to a co-pilot)
Check standing voltage and then re check under hard acceleration (preferably up hill). Post those #s here and we can talk about em
