club car gasket

I have a mid 70's 36 volt club car,and I removed the motor to do some repairs and cleaning. My question is there was a gasket between the motor and the gear box where it mounted, does anyone know what that gasket is called, and do I need to have one there? thanks

I do not think that there is a gasket required. Both of those parts are machined surfaces. Nothing liquid is in between that could escape. The bearing is lubed with grease, and you should lube the spline with some anti-seize compound. Otherwise, I think that you are OK!

. . . as easy as it is to fabricate a gasket, you could buy "thin" gasket material from Auto Zone or someplace and make one. That way you mind will be at ease. Buy a piece large enough to cover the face of the transaxle, then use a small ball peen hammer (while holding the gasket material in place) to "trace" the profile of the transaxle's inner diameter and outer diameter . . the ball peen will cut the gasket material as you "gently" tap the gasket material following the inner/outer edge of the transaxle . . . then use the ball peen to locate/cut the bolt holes too . . viola . . you made a gasket . . . I have made gaskets this way for 30 years . . .

Thanks for the replies and the gasket idea, that I will do. My next question is what type and weight oil goes in the gear box, and how to tell if there is enough? Did I mentioned the cart has been sitting for at least 3 years without being touched, maybe longer.All the brake parts were rusted together,and full of rust instead of brake fluid.I have gotten the parts moving after a few cans of pb blaster,wd-40.wire brush and sand paper.I will post some pics later,once again guys THANKS.
