Another idea on brake lights ...
I noticed Spriddle's locked sticky above on brake light wiring, so I thought I would try to figure out a decent way to wire a brake light switch on my G1 while I'm waiting for my wheel studs and lug nuts.
I fabricated a switch holder which attaches to the left rear bolt of the brake assembly (pic 1). That way it can be removed by simply undoing one bolt. I tack welded a small tab to the brake pedal to stick out to the left and make contact with the switch (pic 3) . Please don't look to closely at my welds. I just slapped them on without turning on the gas or adjusting the feed/voltage. If the concept works, I will do a proper job of welding. I used a couple of bends to give it more rigidity even though the slight force on the switch is minimal (pic 2). The switch fits into the 1/2" hole and pic 4 shows it with the switch off, and pic 5 shows it with the switch on. I'm not even sure I will be adding brake lights, but I figured this would be a good opportunity to set it up if I decide to in the future. Ogre |

Re: Another idea on brake lights ...
Genius! Me thinks you should make a kit and sell them pre-welded to the pedal. Not everyone has welding supplies.

That is exactly what I did...except your bracket is nicer.

Re: Another idea on brake lights ...
Thanks for the kind comments guys.
My main purpose in designing something different than others I have seen was to get the switch away from the mechanicals of the brake pedal. While I have no problem with the way others did it, I wanted to move the switch outside of the rod and adjustment apparatus. That's what required the small tab welded to the brake pedal. I also wanted it easily removeable if I didn't want it, so I made it to fit the bolt which holds the brake mechanism to the floor mount. The small welded tab can stay and cause no problems. Now if I can get my brakes done and the wheels back on, I will look at maybe a thin aluminum cover beneath the front end to keep mud/water/dirt from being thrown up into the switch area, since I have created a sort of small trapping area with the bracket and tab.
