Question Resistor coil cleaning

I have a 36v resistor coil DS. Everything's working fine, but the coils are pretty dirty/rusty. At the risk fixing what isn't broken...is it wise to clean up the coils at all? Particularly where they are clamped to the solenoids?

I have never heard of anyone cleaning the coils, but I have never owned a resistor cart...

If it wipes off, or blows off fine, but don't disconnect to take it out to clean and don't scrub it. If you have cobwebs, or organic matter crusted around it, you probably want to clean it off, so it doesn't get lit up, or insulate the coils and cause them to over heat.
