Default Cleaning Engine compartment

I was wondering what the proper way of cleaning the engine cmpartment is?

We are in a campground and the compartment gets very dusty. I would guess that just spraying it down with the hose is not the proper way, but I have done it.

Thanks

That is what I do, but don't spray the gas cap if it has a vent in it. Then I run the cart to warm it up and dry everything. Done that for 15yr and never harmed it.

I sort of do mine "Basackwards". I run the motor for a minute or so....give it couple of minutes for any hot spots to cool down and then wash it. My thinking is that if water does get somewhere it shouldn't and it doesn't want to start the warmth of the motor will evaporate the water away.

I drown mine any way I want, then blow it off with a yard blower. Then go in with a rag to do the detail work.

That is the way I have done it. Just hose er down, then run it to dry it off.
Haven't had a problem, just want some options.

Your starter belt may be loose, so the water makes it slip. You can wait for friction to dry it or just let it dry some before running....or tighten the belt of course. Assuming the gen pulley spinning is the humming.

Yes I'm pretty sure it was the starter belt slipping.. It is the original belt that came on the cart so a new belt would t hurt

Incidental, but I got a new belt from CPP and it is cogged....kind of matches my HD drive belt. My old gen belt is cracked and slips trying to start the clone when it gets hot with its cut head and advanced timing. I'll get it on there soon.
