Re: G1 Mystery machine
Bought one yesterday @ Autozone $7.99
3/8" gap? I looked up the plug setting for a G9, book says .028 to .031 3/8" would be a hellava spark! JP |

Re: G1 Mystery machine
The problem is likely the trigger(pulsar) coil. The G1 pulsar coil polarity gets reversed when the key is moved from fwd to rev. This is what sets the timing for fwd vs rev. Even though you are getting spark, you may not be getting it at the correct time. You said it ran prior to the losing spark and swapping in a different pulsar coil. Have you tried swapping the white/red and white/green wires going to the pulsar coil? This will change the timing.

Re: G1 Mystery machine
A hot ignition will jump a 3/8" gap, or something close to that. I did use it a lot on outboards, they might have a little more power than a lawn/cart engine as I don't remember last time I used it on a small engine. The plug gap is much smaller because it has to spark under the pressure of compression with wet fuel...not out in the open air in a tester.

Re: G1 Mystery machine
ive been in crazy mode lately mustang a/c, jeep bad crank, ranger 5.0 swap, bronco engine swap, 55 ford work the list goes on i haven had time to mess with it but i will swap the wires tomorrow. i really like this g1 i cant give up on it yet. and the spark seems good cause i get one hell of a shock when it does light up. but i will look into it too cause the trigger coil went and i stole one off a snowmobile motor of that era so ill see how long it lasts.

Makes you happy and want to growl at the same time when it turns out so simple.
