Default DS Won't Go

Have Pre-2000 Club Car that won't go. Nearest repair shop is 60mins away and me with no trailer to transport so I would like to troubleshoot before Igo to the hassle of getting it into the shop.

Details:
-Battery's accepting charge, fully charged, and all connections cleaned
-When pressing accelerator, I hear click sound and feel an ever so slight and momentary movement.
-When it failed I was rolling slightly backward as I touched the accelerator and felt a very brief moment of acceleration (enough to stop backward rolling) followed immediately by no movement.
-at failure moment, did not hear any mechanical breaking or other sounds.

While I am quite mechanical and my first instinct is assume bad electric motor, likely however there are other controller(s)/system/parts/etc... I should inspect/test first. Advice on how to narrow down the issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to BGW!
Yeah, it could be the controller if its a controller cart.
Also do you know if it 36 or 48 volt?
The serial number is right above the go pedal under the dash...

Cannot remember how may batteries...believe there are eight (48v) but cannot be certain until I put my eyes on it tonight.

If it is a controller model, do I need special meter/tool to test or ....?

Thanks

Ok, it's a 1998 and there should be 6 batteries, each with 3 fill holes.
Look behind the batteries and see if there are resistor coils...

No resistor coil behind (rear) of the batteries.

Correction on batteries 6 total with 4 fill caps/cells each

You've got a 48v cart then. Is the shifter a rocker switch or a knob?
