Radio interference?
A while back I installed a radio in our 2001 DS Series cart. When sitting still radio plays fine but at any throttle input it seems like something is blocking radio reception until wide open then it sounds fine again. The radio is wired to a 12 volt automotive battery in the bagwell. Any ideas?

Re: Radio interference?
Are you using a 2 wire system or a body ground?

Re: Radio interference?
Two wire from batt to radio no chassis ground. I have tried re-routing the wires away from any others thinking maybe that would help but no change.

Re: Radio interference?
You first need to determine how the noise is getting into the radio so you do not waste time chasing ghost. Noise gets in from either the antennas or power wires. Get a 12 volt battery throw it on the floor of the cart and connect your radio. Do the test. If the noise is gone, it is coming in on the power. If it remains it is radiated from the PWM controller an/or motor brushes.
My bet is from the wiring, well not actually the wiring, but just the nature of the beast with PWM controllers. If from the antenna the noise is generated by the PWM controller and/or motor brushes. If it is from the brushes try replacing them. Otherwise all you can is move the antenna around to minimize the noise. |

I've got a similar problem, except it's the headlights that cause the radio to cut out.

If so that would be the source of the noise if it only happens with head lights on especially with the radio connected to the Converter. |

Re: Radio interference?
Your noise is probably coming in through the antenna picking up the PWM frequency of the carts controller. I'll bet your radio and antenna is in the dash. I've had the same thing happen as well as many other members. The only guaranteed way I found to cure it was an overhead stereo system (roof mounted) if you want to listen to am/fm.
If you use aux in, cd or other input it will be clear, no static no matter where you mount it. |
