Purchased 90 marathon 2 stroke with ?s
I purchased today an immaculate 90 marathon 2 stroke and I have some questions.
It has an aftermarket comet clutch and the oil has been bypassed and mixed directly in the fuel tank. What is the proper mix for this motor? The owner I think has it running way too rich. I would bet he has it weed eater mixed. 32 or 50 to 1. I pick this up tomorrow and want to drain out the existing and add new |

128:1 which for your convenience is one gallon of gasoline to one ounce of oil. In addition you should not just pour the oil into the gas tank as strangely enough the oil does not readily mix with the gasoline. It is better to pour them into a gas can and shake vigorously to mix and then add to the gas tank.

Well finally got it and mixed it the 100:1 way it should be but dang it's gonna take a while for all of that over richness to burn out and off. Good thing is I am killing the mosquitos early. |

I heard that this oil could be helpful in lowering the amount of smoke:

I have heard of the muffler BBQ procedure. Does anyone have a link on the procedure?

Re: Purchased 90 marathon 2 stroke with ?s
The basic procedure is to remove the muffler and build yourself a charcoal fire in a pit. Once you have a good bed of coals, put the muffler in it and cover it up. Let it cook until its glowing red and remove. After it cools off then you can bang on the sides and dump out all the cooked gunk that was inside. The idea is that the 2 stroke smoke over time leaves a buildup that clogs the exhaust flow thereby killing the performance, no power, etc. Cooking that crap out of there restores the flow.

I may try this BBQ procedure. Or if I can stumble on a new muffler or aftermarket one I may replace it. Not a ton of aftermarket items for the motor that I can find. It does have a comet duster clutch on it. What exact motor is this and horsepower?
