Interesting, I wonder why when I set mine to 4 cylinder it only tach's 2k. I am just going to guess that it must be the brand of the tach. I have no idea what else it could be.

Just for laughs -- What happens if you change the switch on the back to 6 or 8?
That tach probably won't work on a single cylinder engine if it says it is for 4, 6, or 8 cyls. It's only counting the spark pulse with each revolution, and halving it again to give you the reading you're getting, thinking it's 4 cylinders.
Read the ad before you buy something.

It makes just about no difference at all whether you set it on four, six or eight. It may drop a little in RPM's the more cylinders you choose.

Just so you know I did read the ad but bought it anyway just to see if I could get it working. It doesn't work so I'm out $12, no biggie, I won't have to eat bologna the rest of the week.

You might try an inductive tach like this one, but I don't know if it's adjustable or not --

I actually did buy one like that. I'm just waiting for it to show up. I'm not a big fan of the digital display but with any luck it'll let me know where I stand on my RPM's. I'm sure I'm fine but just want to make sure. Thanks though for the input!

Might sound silly but do you have it hooked to the pulsar or the coil?

Yes I do. I'm 99.9% sure it's hooked up correctly. It's just probably the wrong tach for this application. To bad, it looked kinda cool, lol.

I received the little digital one but haven't installed it yet. I'm trying to decide if I can extend the wire on it. I've read around a little about the subject but got myself sidetracked on another project. I'd really like it mounted to the dash somewhere but the wire is just a little short. I'll read up more on it later today.

I have a Sunpro Super Tach II for a car, set it to 4 cyl and works great so it seems like any tach should work. See if one of your buds has one laying around and try it mabey the tach is faulty.

I've got one the little tiny tachs and I had to have a longer wire. Just used a single piece of I believe 14 gauge and it's fine
