Default G1 won't turn over after extended use

I have an 83 g1 that I got running pretty good, lots of new parts and engine rebuild. Its recently developed a problem of starting fine and running for a while then suddenly, when shut off, it won't turn over again. If you sit for a bit (5 to 10 min) it will start right back up like nothing was ever wrong! It has a brand new battery. I'm not much of an electrician, but will take a shot at anything. Love the Site

When it won't turn over can you switch the key to reverse and start it or will it not turn over in both forward and reverse?

Won't turn over in either direction, I just started it after waiting 15 min, I drove it about 3 min and let it sit for 30 min and it won't start. Wondering if it could be starter/generator? maybe the brushes?

Could be brushes, can be solenoids but like posted usually forward or rear go not both. Can be pedal switch also, can be battery post connection I've had to file them down to get power. Check any wire/cable connections and grounds first, wire connection issues are most common.

I just jacked up the drive wheels and got it running, the voltage across the battery terminals is 11.8 volts with the engine running full bore. Does this tell me the voltage being put back into the battery?

Yes that's low if it has original voltage regulator you can take the cap off and and there's an adjusting screw needs to be 13.5-14 when running wfo

I have an adjusting screw mounted horizontally on the regulator, I'm guessing turn it clockwise or in to increase the voltage?
and thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Finally had time to get back to it. Replaced brushes in generator (the old ones were worn evenly about a third of the way gone) so not sure if that had a big impact. However I had to open it up to get a stuck screw on a brush off and while open I cleaned it good and blew out a ton of carbon. I also adjusted the voltage regulator half a turn in.
The result is charging at 16v initially and settled in at 14.2 steady to the battery. Hoping that's the end of my problem, thanks so much the help, you guys saved me a bunch of money
