1986 marathon driven clutch
Recently purchased an 86 marathon and wanted to do maintenance. I pulled the driven clutch off to take apart and clean. There is a ring around the back that I thought was a lock and tied to remove it but it would not move. Can someone advise how to take this clutch apart?
I also noted that where the clutch slides on and meets the rear end there are four bolt holes on the rear end but no gasket or seal? Is this normal? Any help would be appreciated? I have searched on here but have not seen any answers to this. |

Re: 1986 marathon driven clutch
Squeeze down a little on the front sheave. You will see a 2 piece snap ring on the splined shaft.

Re: 1986 marathon driven clutch
clean the area around the 4 bolt holes and spline and you will find that there is a lip seal in the housing.

Re: 1986 marathon driven clutch
Thanks Lou, I think that is a problem. There is no seal / gasket keeping the rear end oil in??

Re: 1986 marathon driven clutch
So, I purchased the rubber rear axle ring /seal and installed it and I am still leaking oil around the shaft where the driven clutch mounts to the rear end. I am not sure if there is another fitting or outer plate that is missing? I am wondering if anyone could offer any ideas?? Does thin ring /seal just fit in the rear end?

Can you post up some pictures of the backside of the clutch and the diff pinion seal?
