For the ignition.

The oil pump drive off the crank.
Use a 79-90 honda xl xr atc 125-200 advance unit and trigger.

At first I was like, we don't have an oil pump.. it is a 2 stroke. Then I was all like, lightbulb! Haha. That looks like the advance unit on my 75 CL360. I would assume that since it is just springs and weights it would work just as well in forward as reverse. The only thing it couldn't do is have two base timing settings (one for forward and one for reverse).

Yeh it would run badly in reverse. And compound it with more retardation as the rpms go up.

A custom plate would be needed to mount the whole assembly.
You could make it rotate just like a car distributor and even add a vacuum pod from one.
Add a cable with a toggle lever for reverse to retard for forward and advance it in reverse. Hook this directly to the fwd rev switch handle so it is automatic.

I have already thought about this set up and was going to build it into my cart.
I sold my cart and ended up with a teryx.
I still have several cart projects im working on but currently none are running.

I've had mine up to 5750 rpm now (not for long stretches) but still seems to to holding together. Have a UNI filter on the way bc it turns out my predator swapped doodlebug's filter is the one I need. Part number up 4245st. Any idea on if I would need jets to fatten it up where I would get them?

I run 91 octane at 40:1 in my KTM race bike, and that is 11:1 compression. I don't think anything over regular 'premium' gas would be necessary.

Current factory compression: with a base gasket thickness of 0.34mm, TDC is practically even with the jug face. Factory head gasket thickness is about 1.4mm, giving us a combustion chamber volume of 32cc. OEM bore x stroke = 157.567cc. (157.567+32)÷32= 5.92:1 compression. 0.50mm over OEM bore x stroke = 159.763cc. (159.763+32)÷32= 5.99:1 compression. So with this information we know that a .50 over piston has a closer to factory spec number (6:1) than the actual factory setup. My next task is going to be removing the 1.6mm lip off of the bottom of the head. This is going to lessen the combustion chamber volume, thus bump compression, as well as fix the terrible squish band numbers.

Current factory squish band at the cylinder wall is 3.5mm, the transition is closer to 5mm, and the band (from wall to transition) is 15mm. I need to remember how to find the area of a circle so I can subtract the pocket in the middle from the squish band and see if we are in the 60% desired range.
