More unique ignition key
I would like to replace the ignition switch on my 2002 ds in order to have a more unique key. I've seen replacement switches online, but they all seem to use the same standard Club Car key. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Ernie |

Re: More unique ignition key
GO to auto parts house and get a generic key switch, it will be unique and cost less than a golf cart unique key switch.

Re: More unique ignition key
Thanks! That was my first thought. Hooking up the red, black and white wires should be easy enough to figure out, but I was wondering about the yellows to the oil sensor/indicator? Is that an issue?

Test your key switch, I believe it is a simple on/off operation. You may need to converge several wires to one connection. Solder or crimp connectors.

Lots of folks including me have used these Harley replacement switches. They are plenty cheap and work great.

I approach this issue from a different angle, I flip up the seat and put the cart in maintenance mode whenever I leave it out of sight somewhere I'm not familiar.

Re: More unique ignition key
There are 2 different internal sides to the key switch. One side turns on and off the 12volts. The other is a ground side for the kill circuit,

Re: More unique ignition key
I've read about guys getting a 2 lug switch from the auto parts store, but, none of them ever came back to say how they wired it
So, I bought a "keyed different" switch from my CC dealer, mostly because I wanted an OEM part, and with the CC gassers, there are 4 lugs on the back of the switch, and didn't want to mess with the wiring on my new (at the time) cart. I was also concerned that the auto parts switches weren't weather/water resistant when I wash my cart! (What could be worse then someone seeing a locksmith having problems with his own key! THAT would be embarrassing!) I did a quick search through BGW's sponsors and didn't find any, BUT... I bet they have, or can get an OEM "keyed different" switch for you! .02 |
