Re: 01 CC DS 36v - F&R & Solenoid Install - Sparks!
It looks like you are looking at this diagram:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...36v_wiring.jpgDid you test that diode before you re-used it? It probably got damaged last time you shorted it, which is now causing the short on the solenoid coil. You can just remove the diode for now, the cart will run fine without it. Follow the wires one more from the diagram I posted, but It looks right to me. |

That did the trick Sergio thank you. In the brief time I've been searching this forum I've read mixed thoughts about whether the diode is needed or not. What are your thoughts?

Re: 01 CC DS 36v - F&R & Solenoid Install - Sparks!
There is no negative side-effect for using diodes on Solenoid/Relays in a Golf Cart or Automobile application, only positive benefits.
You should use a diode. Now, specifically to your 36v cart, the micro-switch "snap" mechanism qualifies it as a "fast-action" switch. Those switches are well suited for breaking DC current and will provide a very long service life without the diode on the Solenoid. |

Re: 01 CC DS 36v - mystery component
What is that tan/yellow-sh plastic block above the solenoid, beneath wires,
with black and red wires? It does not appear in the wiring diagram.. My 2000 DS 36V also has one, with red wire connector corroded away. Not certain where it should connect, or why. |

Re: 01 CC DS 36v - F&R & Solenoid Install - Sparks!
If You look at the wiring diagram I posted on #23, You will see the snubber there.
One of the bad side effects of that cart design was the fact that there was always current flowing through the solenoid contacts when the pedal micro-switch released, likely to protect the Vglide contacts. It looks like club car added the snubber at a later date trying to increase the life of the solenoid contacts. |
