Default Drag Car tow cart

Project tow
here are the stats people

2012 IQ Excel elec club car

4 passengers 800lb total
race car 2500lb
total load 3500lb

We are using this to tow a funnycar back down the return road, some tracks have slight incline and crew are getting fatter every day

Appreciate your thoughts on upgrades to do the job

I wouldn't pull that kind of weight.
I tow my utility trailer around the campground with some stuff in the trailer, but that's no more that 1,200 or so and it scares me. Think I'm going to tear something up or yank the tow bar off of the aluminum frame.

I hear lots of people do this. You just need a big controller aftermarket motor, stock size tires, and all the good stuff.

besides the stuff scottyb mentioned, you could stick a dual range axle in it for better speed when you're not towing a race car and the lower speed range for more torque.

JMO Roc.... I've tried both, gas and electric, at the strip. Towing 4 pass and 1500# car. Gas cart being our best choice for reliable trouble free operation.

Thanks for your comments
the two speed axle deal sounds interesting
the other benefit of the elec cart is we want to also start the engine with it as we carry a 48v jump pack already on a gas cart
Is it worth going for the hi torque motor?
What are the best controllers to look at?

comments appreciated

Haha! I had a feeling you were going to say that! You run with the Aero flow Outlaws?

A series cart would have been best suited for this job. The IQ is a sepex cart designed as described here > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/tech-help-.html

Having read that... You can do this if you upgrade the electric drive system including the motor, cables, controller, & solenoid.
Use the Alltrax XCT500IQ Control, 400 super solenoid, 2g cables through out, and Admiral A4 motor mapped for high torque.

A problem we have here is one of the largest suppliers that I can see in the USA has probably the worst reviews so I am a little hesitant trade with them
They stock a lot of GTW parts which I am after
any suggestions or should I give BU a shot

Stay with a site sponsor.

Scotty laid it out for you in post #8. Email him to get the particulars. I upgraded my cart using his stuff and I know it would pull a car. Like Kashmir above i also use mine to pull a trailer. I fabbed up a front bumper using a 4x4 angle used for bricking over windows and put a 2'' ball on it. I just have to worry about the tongue weight.
