Default Used batteries

Have any of you guys bought used batteries? I think most of them come out of fleet carts from golf courses and stuff. I don't have the cash right now to buy new ones and my old ones are so bad that the cart wont move, so I was thinking about doing this if I can find a good matched set.
Any recommendations?

never done it. used batteries are better than no batteries!

take your multimeter with you and a load tester if you have one. if buying from a dealer/shop they will likely all be at a different state of charge so the voltage reading shouldn't be your sole determining factor when selecting which batteries to take home. using your meter &/or a load tester will allow you to quickly sort out the bad apples. less than 2v per cell resting is no beuno. take a flashlight and look at the plates. the less "growth" on the plates the better.

thats all i can think of at the moment. good luck

Where are you? I have 5 trojan 105s that are about 6 years old- the other one had a bad cell. They are doing nothing right now, and were moving my cart when I took them out.
EDIT: Im in North central TX, a bit north of Dallas

Would love to have them, but I am in North Carolina and shipping may be difficult.

Used batteries are all I ever put in my carts. There is a guy here locally I can get 8 volt batteries for 25 a piece with no core charge so I can take my older batteries to salvage yard and recoup some change.
