Default New OBC when going from 12v to 8v packs

I see that the Club Car kit when converting 4 X 12v to 6 X 8v in the Precedents includes a new OBC. Assuming that this has to do with amp/hour differance, what would be the result of not changing the OBC. We have a couple of older carts 1997/2000 running around with 4 X 12v packs against the original 6 X 8v. They seem to charge ok but could the batteries life and performance be at risk ?

since the OBC controls charging i would think it has to be something in the way it reads the batts and pack............................

This is an interesting thread to me. Last year I converted my CC DS to 8-6 volt batteries instead of 6 - 8 volt batteries. I specifically asked about the charging system post upgrade and folks here stated that the exising system does not need to be changed. That the OBC and charger were dealing with the pack as a whole and has no idea how many batteries.

The only thing mentioned was that the charge cycle could take slightly longer as the AH was now greater.

Cannot seem to find that thread to verify I read correctly.

the OBC has no way of knowing how many batteries are in a string. the actual cell count remains the same, the only difference is the configuration of cells. i can't think of any reason for needing a different OBC.

I have a installation manual #103442001 with parts list and it shows same CC part number for 12 volt to 8 volt conversion ( #103446601 OBC Precedent V4.0 ) Based on that info you dont need another unit?

Perhaps the OBC in CC's kit is the latest and greatest release number?

Thats why I posted my info sourse NUMBER for him to check against what he has as there could be possible later model conversion info? The installation instructions I have seem confusing until you compare part numbers for 8 volt and for 12 volt batterys and find lots are the same.
