Marathon wiring- diagram conflicts
Doing a 90 Marathon rehab. I took this down to the body and battery racks and finally got around to putting in all the new guts, but I want to make sure it's wired up right...
Looking on here and through the help of a handful of people, I have come up with several diagrams and even some written instructions, but there are some differences in what I've seen. LostHusker's post says: "Not sure what it is missing but I did a similar install so let's go over this: A2 of motor to top center lug of FnR switch A1 of motor to M- of controller S2 of motor to Left lug of FnR switch S1 of motor to Right lug of FnR switch B+ of controller bottom center lug of Fnr switch B+ of controller left lug of solenoid ( as you are looking at it mounted on controller) B- to NEG of Battery Pack B- to right small post of solenoid (same as above) Pin 1 Key switch Red to left small post of solenoid Red wire from of left small post of solenoid to ITS Right larger post of solenoid to POS of battery pack Diode should have silver band to left, as above between two smaller posts Should have pre-charge resistor between two larger lugs of solenoid Black wire from beeper to small right post of solenoid Check your connections and let us know. Mark" Scotty has a diagram also, but it differs by: A2 goes to M- A1 goes to top center lug of FnR switch However an older diagram shows: A1 goes to B+ M- goes to the bottom lug of FnR switch So my question is which one is RIGHT? I've also read about plug braking. I have the original Marathon motor running at 36v. Do I need to use the A2 lug or not? Thanks in advance! |

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

Re: Marathon wiring- diagram conflicts
I just want to make sure it wasn't going to fry the controller/solenoid or skin THIS cat in the meantime! Thanks for the info.

Re: Marathon wiring- diagram conflicts
You have to use one diagram or the other. You can't use part of this one and part of the other unless you are confident enough to redraw one of these diagrams.
Can you post the diagram you are thinking about using so we can double check you have the correct one. |

Re: Marathon wiring- diagram conflicts
It really boils down to if you want to use the A-2 connection on the controller are not. It's just a junction for 2 cables instead of just one long cable to F/R switch back to motor!

Re: Marathon wiring- diagram conflicts
I'll probably use the Carts Unlimited diagram. Similar to the one ALLTRAX has, but simplified. As long as it will work, I just want it RIGHT!

Re: Marathon wiring- diagram conflicts
Looking at the Carts Unlimited diagram, what is the orientation of the Solenoid or does it matter?
When looking at the solenoid mounted is it: B+ to right side large post solenoid Batt pack + to left side large post solenoid Appreciate the help from all. I'll post the pics I've been taking along the way when it's all done. |

Re: Marathon wiring- diagram conflicts
The solenoid is not polarity sensitive, the diode is.
