Default Brand new battery assembled wrong...

One is not like the other ones....

So I bought brand new 6v batteries for my free cart I got. I decided to go with low end brand new batteries instead of refurbished batteries (that's a whole different topic) for this cart that I intend to sell. I got all new 4ga cables and installed the batteries. I put the charger on it and nothing. I borrowed a known good working 36v charger and nothing.

I put the meter on them and it showed 25ish volts, I should have done this first, but hey. I tested each battery seperately and observed 6.2? volts on all six. Checked all of the cables for continuity, and all were good.

This time I took a little more time checking each battery. Again each one showed 6.2? volts, except this time the last battery showed -6.2? volts. Hmm. I switched the meter + and - to the - and + on the battery and it read +6.2? volts. The battery is made wrong!! The + is - and the - is actually +. Needless to say I will be making them replace this battery. I physically turned the battery around, hooked up the connections, and plugged the charger in and bam it worked.

Here's the incorrect battery. Notice the negative to negative connection

This is next to a correct battery.

And the whole pack. Notice the stickers are placed correctly though.

Made after Superbowl Sunday? Bad hangover? Made after served with divorce papers? The guy was gonna lose half of his KIA Sportage? April Fools? Oops? Opps? No, Oops!

Good thing you had the patience and smarts to figure it out!!

Either way I am headed out to get it replaced. I wanted to post this up in case someone else runs into issues with new batteries.

Chances are the battery was assembled correctly. I'm sure the lid will only fit on the box one way. More likely it was initially CHARGED backwards and found its way to you. You could do a 100% discharge with a light bulb and charge it back up using the correct polarity. It would be fine after that, but it's probably better to get it replaced.
