Default Feels topped out 08 ST

I got the cart running well and on my way to getting is street legal. The cart has brand new batteries and I got it back together so headed out to see how it goes. I charged the batteries about three days ago and took it out yesterday for a drive mostly at top speed with is between 17-18 MPH I went about five miles and it held the speed and power. Today I took it out again and went about 7 miles and it was holding speed and ran good. My meter started to drop a bit and shows the power at about 3/4 battery. The cart seems to be good on electric not using much but I don’t know. The speed stays up but it seems that I cannot break 18 MPH even with a slight downhill, is it possible the braking is setting in to hold the cart at that maximum speed? Its all stock except the new batteries.

If your '08 has a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover it is a PDS system and YES the top speed is governed. If it won't freewheel downhill, it's a PDS cart.

You can upgrade to a controller that can be set up to remove the regen braking. It makes a big difference, at least in my case it did.

Upgrade to an Alltrax DCS controll and HD solenoid. Add 4g cables and you will be rolling out at 24mph on the flats and gain about 40% more torque up hill. Check out pkg #808 at cartsunlimited.net

Is that keeping my stock 36v system in place with motor too? Is it hard to do, I am pretty good with projects but I know nothing about the controller and how this works. I have done everything so far with help from this board.

Thats the same package I got from scotty. Easy to install and well worth the money. And yes, you keep your same motor.

It's basically plug and play. The controller mounts in the same place as the old one, the solenoid mounts on the controller. I provide written instruction and hardware. The wire harness adapter has 3 different shaped little plug ins so you can only make the connections right.
The controller cover cuts down and I send an illustration showing how and where. The plastic cover cuts with anything like a hand saw or grinder type cut off?.
Cables come with number tags and a picture diagram shows where each # cable goes. I think we have made it as simple and fool proof as possible. I'm available for tech support if you have questions... No one has failed to make the upgrade yet

Right now I am getting between 17-18 MPH and it seems to have pretty good range. If I were to do this would I pick up more speed? How would it affect the range of the cart? I have to get about 20-25 mile range which I think is possible now. I went five miles each day for a total of ten without a charge and I am still showing full on meter. So I think i can get what I need, it would be great to get more speed though.

You shouldn't drive without charging your batteries. It will reduce their run time and lifetime.

As to range, theoretically, it takes the same amount of energy to go from point A to B, but rolling resistance and wind resistance will be a little more at faster speeds.
