Battery test results
Ok so I fully charged the batteries on my EZGO. I waited 12 hours and then tested them. They all are holding 6 volts. But when I put a load on them with my battery load tester they each drop to 5 volts. I understand that means they are weak. But I just wanna make sure I just need to scrap these batteries before buying more. I'm going to go to a 48 volt system. So I'm going to buy 8 volt batteries. Just wanting to make sure before I move forward.

Re: Battery test results
The golf cart is the best load tester most people own, better than any 50 amp automotive tester. Connect a DVM to the pack and lay the meter on the seat. Hit the gas and watch the meter. Can you find a hill to test against? What does the voltage drop to under hard load?

Re: Battery test results
You have to be much more specific. If your batts are 6.00 volts 12 hours off the charger they are goners. If they are 6.37 volts then they are holding charge very well.

Re: Battery test results
It won't pull much of a hill. Even after immediately coming off of a charge. If it is a long uphill grade at all it bogs down. Anything more than I would say than a gradual change and it won't pull.
No the volts are dead on 6. There was one or two batteries that were like 6.1 or so. So I would be better served getting a digital volt meter instead of the battery load tester? When you say check the pack how exactly do you check the pack all together? Also I'll tell you these cables on the batteries don't look so hot! Do I need to change those first, then check the batteries again? |

QUOTE] Thats bad news right there. You might check and clean the cables but to have a battery read that low right off the charger means you'll be buying batts soon. |

Re: Battery test results
Ok so bought me a digital volt reader. They are all at 5.89 to 6.1. So what should they be reading after a charge and sitting all day?

Re: Battery test results
Good batteries should read 6.38v after sitting all day off the charger.
Aging batteries may read as low as 6.28v which is not a full charge but still useful. Your batteries are falling below 50% SOC (state of charge) right off the charger and when placed under load they completely collapse. |

Re: Battery test results
Ok well here we go. Will go tomorrow and start new batteries. 6, 8 Volt batteries. Is there a problem buying 3 one week and 3 another? So I don't have to drop $600 in one pop? Also any advice where to get the best deals. I guess I'm going to go ahead and get those 2 gauge wires from ya online.

Re: Battery test results
When they are that far gone, you should replace all of them together. It's not good to have three new ones and three weak ones in series in a pack when you charge them.
