Clutch noise
I have a 1999 G16 that just started making noise. When running wide open it has a noise that sounds like grinding or gears out of mesh. Hard to explain. I put it in neutral and run it wide open and the noise is coming from the secondary. Or the transmission. Any ideas what it could possibly be? Anyone ever encounter this issue? Attached is a picture of the clutch is it supposed to be so close to the trans

Re: Clutch noise
I think the clearance is ok as long as the metal parts don't touch the case. grab the clutch & wiggle it to check for slop in the input shaft that it is attached to & see if the bearing is bad. what is the black splatter? oil or paint??

Re: Clutch noise
Looks like your snapring behind the spring seat (part with black ramps) is history, get a spacer in there instead. Also get a belt when you order the spacer, yours is done.

Re: Clutch noise
Black ramps should be mostly covered by sliding sheave, and, belt is supposed to be at top of sheave. Somethin' aint right, and i suspect its more than just spacer. But needs a spacer too. I think plowmans has 'em.

I am picking up a harmonic balancer puller this week to remove when I go back to lake. What bolt size is those holes in the secondary? I have spacer coming this week.

Re: Clutch noise
