Question Tire pressure

My owners manual says the tires should be inflated to 16psi, but that seems very low to me. The tires on the cart have a much higher max capacity psi, so how does one know the proper tire inflation?

Go by what the owners manual says if you want it correct to golf course regulations. DO NOT go by what the side of the tire says. Even on your everyday vehicle. That is the maximum PSI the tire can hold before it goes BOOM... I run 10 or 11 PSI for a more cushy/softer ride. Hope this helps!

A lot goes by feel, type of use,and personal-preference.Golf-Use would run softer than Street-Use.The manual is written for the cart, the tires are more general-fit,so I would start with the manual-spec,and adjust to your liking from there.Items like rear-seats will require more pressure in the rear,etc...Hope this helps.

On a car or truck,I always go with the tire-spec,on carts,mowers,etc.. I start with the mfg or tire spec(Whichever seems more reasonable),and adjust to my liking. If you are bouncing around your yard, you will want them a little softer, than if you are cruising around your neighborhood.

I'm with ya Mike. My 489's are suppose ta be at 8#. I run the back tires at 9 on the black top , but have gone down ta 7 off road. Front, I run 6 to 8#, don't want to break one off the bead. I'm always alone when I go out!!

Now, my sand rail, I've been known ta run down ta 3, when racing!

Most lawn equipment runs at 12psi, this gives nicer ride while tire hard enough to not affect mow height or come off rim. Most offroad tires like ATV/paddles/etc low traction tires run lower but remember a stock cart engine is low power and has a hard time with soft tires. I ran 8 front and 12-15 rear on my 22s on G9. Depending if I had stuff in the box or not. It went faster on 15psi. The front was light so it rode harder above 8psi and didn't want to steer offroad. Also some tires will center at higher pressure (atv) and wear out the center of the tire so you have to be careful of that on hard surfaces. Pressure really changes the handling and ride you should experiment, but don't run them flat or hard as a rock lol.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Yet I am not sure I am any closer to deciding what to keep the pressure at. The cart, assuming I keep it (see http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/membe...-i-bought.html ) will be rented for use within a gated community with mostly pavement driving. While there are golf courses that some people may use it on, I need to keep the pressure best for as many as four people running around on the roads.

So I want the right pressure for keeping the tires in good shape and the cart having a safe ride.
