Grinding noise from rear end
I thought I'd read a post about this before, but cannot find it now so I'm hoping for some advice. When the cart is coasting or braking, there's a constant grinding sound from the rear end, but the noise disappears when I'm accelerating or have my foot on the pedal. This is a constant and has been happening for a while. Right now the cart is in storage at our campground, but I want to get things figured out for when the campground reopens. Thanks in advance :)

Re: Grinding noise from rear end
Sounds like you may have one of the bad rear ends that have been written about in this forum. I think they have a yellow sticker. The gears are no good and they fail in the way you describe.

Re: Grinding noise from rear end
I have the yellow sticker. I'm going to try the penny or two under the armature bushing to see if that does the trick. I don't the the whole rear end is bad since it drives and sounds perfect when I'm accelerating or have my foot on the gas pedal.

Re: Grinding noise from rear end
Early models Yamaha Drive electric with "white tag" team axle. Yellow, blue or green is good.

Re: Grinding noise from rear end
Are you saying a white label is no good, and the other 3 colors are good?
Was there a certain year they used the bad ones? What do you do about it, if you have the bad color? |

Re: Grinding noise from rear end
Just my two cents from what I've learned here from the great people of BGW. I don't know for sure but I believe it started in 2006 or 2007 for the drives. You can buy the whole axle assembly for about $1200. if you have the "white" label rear end, its not if it will go out, its a matter of when.... My cart has the white label, and I'm just gonna run it till it quits and then get another one.

Re: Grinding noise from rear end
I think yamaha said 07-08, but i think they were used longer. White tag is bad, all other color tags are good. Dont go by the sticker on the body alone to determine model year, look the serial number up. Bodies can easily be changed, and the production date is usually a year early (production date of 2006 is usually a '07 model).

Re: Grinding noise from rear end
You might want to check to see if the spacer between the driver side rear tire and the transaxle in not loose. If you can spin it by hand then you need to tighten the axle nut, this is a common problem that can often cause the grinding noise that you describe. Had it on mine tightened nut fixed the noise.
