Id check your valve adjustmentment also if your havent already. Manual says .12mm(.0047in) for the fe290. I think your compression is good, generally anything over 100psi should run.

Are we sure my engine is supposed to turn clockwise? The id tag is worn off, but the emissions tag has build date of 1998, that's the engine, not sure about the cart's build date.
I see some wiring has been messed with in the box that the throttle cable goes into. Its a pedal start cart. Image of engine bay attached. [IMG][/IMG] |

If the engine tag says 1998... It's clockwise rotation!
96 to 97 was the "iffy" year! |

Yes, the engine should definitely turn clockwise. If the starter is spinning it counter clockwise then you can just switch the green wire on the starter from A2 to A1 and vice versa with the ground.
