Default 8" JL Audio Marine Subwoofer in a DS Questions

Hello. Quick Question regarding installing a Marine Sub in my DS. I want to install the below linked 8" JL Audio Marine Sub in the engine compartment of my DS. JL Audio states that the Sub does not need an enclosure and I plan to not use an enclosure. Just looking at the geometry of the sub, I believe I can fit it just to the left of the shifter when looking at the front of the cart within the engine enclosure. My main question is does it get too hot in the engine enclosure for the sub to operate? Secondly, does anyone know about the performance of a subwoofer of this type without an enclosure? I just really do not like the look of a sub box in the rear compartment area of the cart. Please let me know your thoughts before I cut an 8" hole in the body of my cart. I currently have a Wet Sounds Stealth 10 that I really want to add some low end sound to. Thanks all for your help.

I installed these 6 inch Kenwood speakers but I had to make wood extensions because there is a aluminum brace on each side of the shifter. If you have these braces I would think because of the magnet size it will be tough. I'm sure you can cut the braces but it will take away from the stability of the body. Good Luck!!

I am measuring 7.5 inches of clearance until I hit the oil dip stick. I believe you are correct in that the vertical support is in the way. I would mount it right to the body and figure out a way to reinforce it because of its weight. Thoughts? This seems like the absolute perfect place for the woofer if the vertical support and fuel pump were moved and the woofer could withstand engine enclosure temps. Has anyone got tricky with a custom sub box in the back of the cart angled up and slightly facing forward? I just don't like the idea of bulky box back there. Looking for a clean place to install the woofer. Ideas?

Hey Look,

I did the same thing as you, had the same problem with that brace.. I bought Plastic 1" extensions on e-bay.. I was gonna make them out of wood but didnt think they would last as I don't have a top on my cart...

Well all of you are using speakers in that same location with success so I do t believe that temperatures would be that significantly different with a sub that is slightly deeper. Does anyone have a temperature probe that would be able to provide me some running temperatures in that location that I could ask JL audio if said temperatures would be okay with their sub? Thank you all for the help. This is a big decision because once I commit, I have an 8 inch hole in my body. I really want this to work.
