Default DS drive clutch Questions

1998 DSFE 290 clutch concerns.
Couple of years back I sent my driven clutch to Cart Parts Plus for driven clutch machining, installation of the torque spring in your driven clutch, and purchased the +200 RPM engagement spring for my drive clutch. I also rebuilt the drive clutch with new weights and buttons. Assembled drive clutch with copious amounts of carbon powder lubricant as stated in service manual. After installation everything worked great for a short period of time but then it started banging on engagement. Removed driven clutch and found weights became gummed and didn't move freely. Cleaned and reassembled to have the same thing happen a short time later.

Am I using the wrong type of lubricant On the weights and internal surfaces?

I did notice there is significant wear on the belt surface surface so I am considering a new drive clutch. Should I get a aftermarket clutch or spend the extra money for a club car part?
Will the +200 RPM engagement spring fit in an aftermarket clutch?

Thanks for reading and any replies would be appreciated.

As I always understood it, using any kind of lubricant inside the drive clutch is a no-no. You're saying that the manual recommended this?

X2!

It's always been my understanding that CC drive clutches are designed to run dry. (no lube, anywhere)
So, just for the heck of it, (in fear of being mistaken again )
I read through the drive clutch section my manual, and it doesn't show lubrication anywhere in the drive clutch!

I thought I recalled this from my service manual. I do know that when I opened it up initially it was loaded with a dry graphite powder. That is probably why I assumed it needed dry graphite powder.
On my next clutch repair I will not use lubricant and make sure that everything is oil free by cleaning with brake cleaner.
This is why these forums are so great. You have so much valuable information and you save so many hours of aggravation by spreading your knowledge .
Thanks again .........Chuck E.

My 1986-1991 manual states clearly not to use any kind of lubricants nor to use solvent to clean the clutch. The 1992-up clutches are of the same design so I would have to believe the instructions would be the same.

I'd just wipe it clean per instructions and leave all the chemicals on the shelf:

Yeah well... when I goof up, your the one that always seems to catch me on it!

Back on the subject...
It may be possible that your "buttons" are getting worn causing the clutch to "bang" the way it is...
they're pretty inexpensive to replace, so you may want to consider that the next time you have to take it apart!

Note: use just 1 button spring, and leave the other 2 buttons flop around! (it helps with smoother shifting!)

New buttons and weight assemblies will be ordered and I will wait with replacing the whole clutch.
Thanks to all.

Definitely won't forget the thrust washer. I flipped it over the last time it was apart and know it is worn.
