Default 1989 2 stroke I think

Cart came from another shop and someone really did a butcher job on it.
Here goes
Got talked into helping a friend who bought a 1989 that was not firing. I had a cart (198 that was junked but had all the ignition parts on it. I got it to firing.

Found the tailpipe on muffler was plugged up with sticks of wood. I mean plugged up. It was actually bent like someone had backed into a wood pile or stump.
I took it apart at top pipe and no help. It acts like it is out of time. It will explode and never open up.
This cart was in a shop for months. They told my friend it had a new cylinder and piston and indeed it looks new. Even got two new clutches on it. Also new carburetor was installed. (OEM) Also put new muffler on it but they cut and welded it to fit. Not very pretty job.
The piston is not in backward. The reeds are good. Compression is 130. Crank seals are good.
New spark plug two times. Now when I try it the plug get wet like too much fuel. I am working behind a mess and right now I am lost on what to try next.
It scared my dog yesterday when I tried to start it. It hurt my ears LOL

I would check the fuel pump for a ripped lower diaphragm.

Mine did the EXACT same thing. 1989-92 3PG. Piston was in backwards, even though I didn’t think so. The “window” should face the intake side.

Yep- it’s backwards. Another forum member (CP241) helped me discover that too:)

I’m still having struggles with mine too but not we that anymore!

I know I should have never said the piston was not in backward when I really didn't look all that good.

I know this is a confusing issue with these old engines. I have a manual for the 3pg's and it said the two windows go toward the exhaust port.

I should be able to put things back and get it back running this week. Tom

Is yours a 2PG or 3PG ?
This is an factory manual straight from Augusta. The man that used to be our EZGO tech give it to me years ago when I worked at a golf course. I have the 2PG manual somewhere but I got to find it. This is the rebuild section for the 3PG I took the picture from.

Maybe it's just me but I don't think that single port PG2 piston is going to work in a PG3.
