Default engine swap

Hello all, new to this
Have heard alot about installing v twin engines, but not much about other models. I have a 97 EZ GO TXT with the 295, runs a little rough, looking at less expensive engines like 16hp powermate or greyhound, can i make this work, what kind of modification will need to be done in regards to clutch work.

I put a Jakes spindle lift on it 2 wks ago and went to the mountains, had to get out and help it up some hills. Do not want speed, i need low end. any help greatly apreciated, thanks.

I would adjust the valves and try a shorter belt or the 28deg clutch mod. (see tech section) climbing shouldn't be a problem even with the 295.
With a different engine you'll need an engine craddle and a drive clutch (or have yours machined)

Question Re: engine swap

Its been a while, messed with the 295, got it running a little better, still smoking, poor compression, have to push it up the hills. I have come to the conclusion that I need a rebuild or a clone, would prefer the 16hp from power max but have been digging and seems they are having a problem fitting into the txt model even with fabbed cradle, is this true or are there any successfull ezgo txt 16hp clone swaps.

Will the 295 with the 28deg clutch get me similar power without the hassle?

I have already pulled the engine out of the cart, I need to make a decision, any more help would be apreciated.
