Default Motor revving to high for the speed...

The basics:

2002 Club Car DS with the FE290 engine. Rebuilt drive clutch, new secondary clutch. Motor runs good. New belt, new brakes and cables. 6” lift kit, rear seat and HD springs. New exhaust. The primary clutch closes properly and the belt rides all the way to the edge at speed.

The problem:

The motor is revving too high for the speed that I’m getting. Tops out at 20mph, but I’m getting 6000-8000 rpms to get there. It also seems like I have no mid range in the throttle. It’s either nothing, or it needs to be to the floor in order for the cart to move. I’m not sure if the secondary clutch is opening all the way, and there is fresh gasket material on the seam for the trans, which leads me to believe that someone has been in the transmission at some point.

How can I tell if the secondary clutch is opening all the way?
If it is, how can I tell if there is something wrong inside the transmission?
Is there something else I should be looking at?

Thanks.

Double check your tach settings. If you really are revving 6000-8000rpm (I doubt it) that engine is coming apart. the rev limiter should kick in LONG before then and kill spark preventing it from revving that high.
