Yamaha G1 Rear wheels locked up—Where to start?
So yesterday afternoon I was taking the 83 yammer out for a drive around the neighborhood. Driving it back home the rear tires completely stopped spinning. When I hit the gas the starter generator spins but it’s belt just slips on the fixed sheave of the primary clutch. I strapped it to truck to tow it home since I was unable to move it. Rear wheels dragged the entire way home. Just want some pointers on where to start looking? Should I remove the main drive belt to see if the issue is with primary clutch or rear secondary clutch/axles area? What else can I check? Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Jack up the rear to see if one wheel will spin & turn the other the opposite direction, that's where I'd start. Try to wiggle the secondary clutch to see if it's the part that's locked up.

Update: I jacked up the rear tires and yes they spin freely. One in one direction and the other opposite. Neither primary or secondary clutch move at all. Both belts are still on though

Primary clutch wont move? that indicates a locked up motor. You might as well cut off the drive belt, so you can really determine which one is stopping the other from turning.

Re: Yamaha G1 Rear wheels locked up—Where to start?
I know it’s been a long time since last post but yes it’s the engine locked up. Piston is jamming in cylinder. I was able to spray some WD40 around the piston and it freed up but there’s definitely too much play in the cylinder and piston so it’s gonna need a rebuild for sure. Was looking for the replacement cylinder and piston kit but apparently everyone is out of stock.
