Duromax engine electric start
Hello all, i am new to the site and to golf carts at least building them. My question as i have been unable to find any info is can i use my starter generator to start a new duromax engine the same way the golf cart starts now. The price difference between an electric start engine and a pull start is enough that has me wondering. I would like to keep the throttle start as i do use the cart to play golf often, however when driving on the street around my hoa i have found that i need way more power. The cart is an 89 yamaha g2. It runs well enough now on the course but just need more every where else. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Duromax engine electric start
The Vegascarts install kit uses the original S/G set up with a pulley beside the primary clutch much like the stock set up so the electric started version isn't needed. On some carts a kill system is needed to shut the engine off once it is started it needs nothing from the cart but a fuel supply. Obviously if you fab something yourself this may take a different track

You can view a step by step guide for your cart on the Vegascarts site.

Re: Duromax engine electric start
Is the stock engine worn out? Did you do a leakdown test or compression test? It doesn't matter if you just want more power from a bigger engine lol.
What is the condition of your clutches and belt? Often times a well running cart is hampered by worn clutches. These carts in stock form should go just about anywhere they can get traction. I'd hate to see you get a new engine etc and have the issue be in the drive system. Unless you are getting new clutches and drive belt with the new engine, which would solve both an engine and drive system issue. Keep in mind that the stock drive clutch will not work with the new engine, different type crankshafts. You can use an adapter, but it requires you to cut the flywheel. The better option would be to use a new 1" clutch like the Comet 780. |
