Question G2 - input shaft replacement (picture)

How do I pull it out to put the new one in? Do I need some kind of puller to yank the bowl/hook thing on the end?

Shouldn't require any puller, but pretty much everything has to come out. If you look closely each of those shafts have gears that are all trapped behind other gears. Keep track, take pictures of what order they come out and it will help get it all back together again.
FYI: That "bowl/hook thing" is the arms & weights of the governor.

Thank you! I will keep pulling things out. These gears on the inside look like they were just machined not 35 years old.. Good Yamaha engineering.

**Lets say a person is losing track of what order the gears are in... Does anyone have a layout/breakdown of what order things are in...**

Got the old input shaft off. Now need to figure out how to get that gear off the old input shaft. You would think for $200 they would include it...

Froze the old shaft and got the old gear off. Dont think I will be able to get it back on without a shop press. Left a message with an ATV shop to see if they can put it on.

Dropped the shaft off at the ATV shop. Thought about buying a shop press but would only use it once or twice a year. Now I wait.

I did mine with a $40 bearing puller. And you can go to several auto supply houses and 'rent ' tools so it ends up costing 0.

If you put the shaft in the freezer for 24 hours and then before you take it out, heat the gear in the oven at 400 for 30 minutes, you can usually slide it on with just a little help. And some thick gloves.
I do this to flywheel ring gears and bearings as well.
Let it naturally cool, do not quench it to cool it...

Thanks. I will try that if they can't get it done in a timely manner.

I bought a new gear. It was only 20 dollars or so. Then pressed it on with a harbor freight shop press. It’s a snug fit.
