Is My Party Over? ('86 Carryall 2)

Hi all,
While driving my '86 carryall 2 with the old flat head, I heard something sound like a snap or break, and the cart seemed to slow up. A loud rattle began. Now, the cart starts and runs as it always did, but with a horrible clanking/rattle/knocking sound.

It is so violent that I did not move it more than a few feet. It all of a sudden gets violently louder with more throttle, so I just parked it and left it. Visually, I see nothing.

Is it blown up? Piston/rod or something broken? It still runs...
I knew a 23 year old flat head wouldn't last much longer.
Where to begin...

Advice? Things to check?

More than likely you are right..... begin looking for another motor?

Thanks Scottyb,

I am sure previous threads have identified where to browse new engines, but what do you suggest?

I am not sure I would go for a big block or anything, just a replacement motor that will rotate the correct way and line up correctly for an '86 carryall2.

Your engine is CCW rotaion. Most all engines are the same except any CC engine 1997 and up are CW rotaion.... a direct bolt in upgrade would be the CC fe290 which had overhead valves and spin-on oil filter I think they were from 94 to 96 in the CCW rotation.
