Default 98 295cc interference engine??

Hey guys,
Is the Robin 295CC a interference engine? Restated: Will it bend valves when the timing belt breaks??

I think I broke one. Its blowing compression out the carb...

it can. your going to loose compression out the carb if the cam is not rotating. are you sure the belt is off.

No not 100% sure. The cart's at my dads place about an hour away and I haven't had a chance to pull the cover yet, but I'll know for sure Sunday...
I was trying to figure out if I can just order a new belt before I go or should I be prepared for an in-frame major.

You said "can" bend valves?

That would all depend on where the cam rotation was when the belt went, how far out they were in the head etc..The 295 has a closed combustion chamber, that might have helped prevent bending.URL="http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-gas-tech/"]http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-gas-tech/[/URL] You can pull the valve cover and turn over the motor to see if the cam turns. Be careful, oil will shoot out of the oil port straight up in the air. You need to cover that up with a rag or ? If the cam doesn't turn, you will need a belt and clutch puller. There's a bolt and rod combo you can use to save the puller purchase. It's all here somewhere....Good Luck!

pulled my ezgo clutch with a 2 inch fine thread 3/4 bolt and about a 5 inch 5/8rod. Put the rod in the clutch hole , screwed in the bolt and popped the clutch off. This cost me 4.50 at the local hardware store, so if in a bind and don't have access to the 30 plus dollar puller , hit the hardware store

I found this in another thread for you. I think 3/4" fine thread would be 3/4-20. You'll find out at the hardware.

Tony, Thanks

I went all through the tech area before my original post and found the service manual. AWESOME. The manual although a lot more than I had before doesn't go into a lot of detail.

Do I really need to remove the clutch to replace the timing belt?

It has two clutches. The drive clutch is on the crankshaft and the timing belt cover is directly behind it. There is a screw that you can't reach and if you could get it out, you would need to bend the cover....so, yea.
The front (drive) clutch has the starter belt on it also. The rear clutch is the "driven" clutch and is on the differential.

It's not too tough once you get the clutch off. The cover has 3-10mm bolts. you remove that and there is an upper and lower sprocket. Between those two is the adjuster pulley. You can pull off either sprocket, slip on the new belt, align the marks and reassemble. There is a pin that lines up the cam to the upper sprocket. It needs to point straight up... The lower sprocket has a keyed shaft. The key way needs to point straight up also. You may need to remove the lower sprocket bolt and washer to see the key. That's it. I would adjust the valves while its apart. it's .004mm.
Both pistons on this motor are at top dead center at the same time but uses an opposed cam timing. There is a balancing shaft to compensate for the pistons moving together. I'll talk with you tomorow...Bedtime. have a good night. Tony

Ah shoot! That cover is on the left side.... I had it in my head the timing belt was on the right hand side... Talk about a newb huh? Still, it doesn't look as difficult as timing an 855 Cummins. 3/4 X20 huh? I'm on it

Thanks
