Didn't know synthetic wouldn't burn and smoke. Synthetic oils are thinner and have cleaning agents. Only problem I've ever ran across with synthetics is leaking. Which is due to the cleaning agents in the oil cleaning gum and whatnot from seals thus causing leaks in older worn engines.

Never ever use any type of oil treatment in these Yamaha's. They use a splash system to oil and lubricate.

Ok next question is how hard is it to do the rings on my cart? They are cheap from what I have seen. What else needs to be done when doing the rings?

They tell me that is a bad oil ring, the compression rings may still be good. Or someone screwed up a bore job or they just honed it. Sometimes you hear piston slap if its honed. Mine is tired and another guys is smoking burning oil, it smokes all the time but not that much. Pulled the motor cylinder looks great. But think we are going to the 16hp clone just have to figure out the clutch, at 350 its hard to not go after almost twice the HP.

Rings you still have to take the crank out and all to pull the piston, maybe you need gaskets for it is all, should hone cylinder to break the rings in. You better check the bore though it might need to be bored. The block/cylinder is one piece on these and the side of the crank case comes off.

Spriddle I know you always say never to use additive but we did it in my buddy's cart anyway. He bought a g9 for $450 that smoked like a freight train. We put probably around 10 hrs on it with the stuff in it it stopped smoking changed the oil with synthetic and it has been perfect ever since. I know its not good for the motor but it worked.
