Default driven clutch out? 86 2pg

so i just rebuilt my engine... runs good.. driving is not so good.. the driven clutch seems to move in and out in and out constatnly when it is driving... i had to put it up on jack stands to see it doing it and makes all kinds of noise.,. like sorta a grinding/ rubbing noise?? really odd sounding.. does that mean the clutch is out or something it not togather right?

How is the Drive-clutch(engine-mounted).If the rollers and/or bushings are shot.It will perform terrible and sound like a thrashing machine. If you grab the clutch and try to rock it clockwise/counter-clock wise does it rattle bad?Does it rock up/down?If yes replace/repair the Drive-Clutch.Your Secondary(driven on axle)should slide in/out with a little resistance, and also rotate until the sheave contacts the ramps in either direction. If not then it needs repair.Does the cart take off decent and then if you slow-down and try to speed up again, does the cart lug-down like it has no power? This is a common sign of a bad Primary(engine)clutch due to the clutch binding up and not back-shifting to low-range(open sheaves).Usually a bad secondary will not give any speed unless it is stuck in high-range then you won't have any low-end power. Hope this helps.
