Re: shim the Driven-Clutch
I am in the same boat. I just bought a used driven clutch from e-bay because mine is shot. Should I put a new spring in it before I install it? And should I "shim" it. I have no idea what that even means.

Re: shim the Driven-Clutch
second set of pictures ,
ok when you get the clutch apart check every thing mine has wear on the sheeves not real bad and it is at WOT. so i will not mess with it. check the cam and cam pucks make sure the sheeves will slide with out binding to make the belt ride up higher on the secondary i removed the shim on one side of the clutch . this will allow the sheeves to come together and touch, this will be a low low first gear. now to shim the spring material that i used wha uhmw plastic , alum, sheet pvc, so i was scared the first time i did it, was afraid the darn thin would blow apart. but it never happen to me yet ....lol i started out with 1/8" material and stacked them up test drove it added more up putting in .500material split the difference 250. on both sides of the spring. it helped but nothing like the new spring the i installed. ***note { I cut them out with hole saws the we use at work ]*** some wher not pretty but when testing i did;nt care . i have no picture of the shims i left them in the cart dealer for him to show people..........just but the right spring .. hated i mean hated paying 52.00 for the darn thing but WOw what a big difference. Re: shim the Driven-Clutch
Rusty, does the stiffer spring give you engagement at higher rpm like it does on a primary clutch spring on a snowmobile?

Re: shim the Driven-Clutch
it makes it down shift quicker like when you come to a hill and it wants to bog down some the spring stops the bog down .

Re: shim the Driven-Clutch
You don't need to spend $52 for the spring. I installed an $8 EZGO spring and got these results.
