Default what oil to pre-mix with???

i have a 85 gasser and I was wondering about what oil to premix with? i went to my autoparts store and they have like 4 or 5 different mix ratio bottles, can i use the 32:1 and just mix a128:1 ratio with that? or do i have to find a 128:1 ratio oil?? any input is great on this

Oil is oil, just buy any SAE approved and mix it at 1 ounce per gallon of gas which is 128:1.
BTW you should mix it in a separate container and shake it to mix the solution. Just pouring it into the tank will not do.

Is the 128:1 mix used on all the older motors?

I believe that's the mix on all the 2 strokes. Correct me if I'm wrong.

YEP 128:1 on all the 2cycle engines the only exception is after a rebuild the first tank only should be mixed at a ratio of 40:1 which would be 3 oz per gallon. Also some members are running theirs a little richer for extreme use at 100:1 but I use mine most every day and run it hard at times at the 128:1 for over 2yrs and never have even had to change a plug.

I will make one suggestion, and that is to make sure you use 2 cycle oil rated for air - cooled engines! Outboard motor 2 cycle oil does not have the capability to lube and cool the air cooled engines properly. Told to me by a small engine tech.

That's good info, I have been using 2 strokes for many years and I did not know why outboard engine oil was different.
